The only real requirement to play Disc Golf is to get a throwing Disc. Officially recognized Disc Golf discs will be stamped with PDGA approval.
There are 3 types of Disc Golf discs:
- Driver - are typically discs that fly the farthest and have the fastest capable throwing speed. Drivers have two subcategories:
- Distance Driver - are drivers with the highest speed ratings and generally have the farthest overall distance potential
- Fairway Driver - are slower speed drivers that can be used for long distance shots that require more specific flight controls
- Midrange - are discs optimized for control over distance.
- Putter - are typically used for close shots near the Disc Golf basket.
Most Disc Golfers carry a variety of discs to suit their specific needs, but you only need one disc to actually play.
